SOAR for Youth

SOAR Academies are a series of four consecutive residential summer academies on the UC Berkeley campus. There are three openings in the new cohort for 2024.

WHO:

• Youth entering 7th-9th grade in the fall of 2024
• Entering participants must currently be in foster care/kinship care (not legally adopted by guardians)
• Participants should have a GPS of 2.0 or higher
• 14-16 youth will be admitted to the 2024 cohort

WHERE:

• UC Berkeley campus, Foothill Student Housing Facility

WHEN:

• July 7-13, 2-24

WHAT:

• Academic enrichment in critical subject-matter areas like writing and math.
• College orientation and guidance.
• Outdoor adventures where bonding and teamwork are key.
• Success stories from former foster youth and career role models.
• Life-skills training, including help with personal finance.
• Career development, including job search and interview skills.
• Connection to emancipation services and college scholarship programs.
• Sustained support between and beyond the summer academies for 5-10 years.
