Mini golf that supports youth in foster care
Designed by more than 150 local artists, Stagecoach Greens Mini Golf has always been by the community for the community.
Centrally located in the heart of San Francisco, it sits between a popular food truck area and a children’s hospital (whose patients always play for free). It is also notably the only outdoor mini golf course in the city, with each hole telling the story of boom and bust in the West.
Over the years, the course has earned many accolades, but our favorite fact is that when you play at Stagecoach Greens, you’re supporting youth in foster care!
Several years after helping found Braid Mission, Jan and Esther Stearns opened Stagecoach Greens with the goal of donating the majority of proceeds to Braid Mission. Today, that goal is a reality.
In addition to providing the primary funding for Braid, Stagecoach Greens has also made a standing offer to employ older Braid youth after they turn 16.
“The Stearnses have a longtime commitment to advancing the quality of life for foster youth and families,” says Marketing Director Rachel Rapaport. “They have adopted foster children and they have helped foster youth realize their dream of attending college throughout California through their support of the ACE Scholars at Cal State San Marcos.”
For many of our youth, spending time with their mentors might be their only chance to enjoy being a kid in a safe, judgement-free environment. There are a lot of great lessons in any play activity, like trying new things and learning how to respond graciously when you don’t win.
When we play mini golf, it’s a valuable reminder of the importance of recreation. We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with Stagecoach Greens and the dedication of their entire team to support youth in foster care.
If you’ve ever played a round, thank you for supporting our mission! And if you are in the Bay Area and haven’t been yet, this weekend is the perfect time to play a few holes 😉
